This free-flowering cactus is an excellent choice for the novice cactus grower, blooming prolifically in spring. Endemic to a single canyon in central Mexico, Mammillaria zeilmanniana is endangered in the wild but has become a very popular cacti in cultivation, being both highly attractive and easy to grow. It forms neat, dark green, spiny cushions that offset readily to produce clumps. The offsets can be detached to grow new specimens. In spring, pinkish-purple, funnel-shaped flowers about 2cm in length are produced. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Maximum height: 10cm (4in). Spread: 30cm (12in).
